djiboogo
Djiboogo is a design and art collective
based in San Francisco. Our intent is to increase knowledge and community
among artists who work in multiple mediums, to encourage people to make original artwork a
part of their daily lives, and to serve as an example for people interested
in the SF art scene. Our various members
are not concerned with being cool or hip; our jeans might be the wrong size, and you're most likely to see us
wearing paint, clay, blood, sweat and second degree burns. We have trained in large scale industrial design, glassworking, metal fabrication,
painting in many different capacities, printing, ceramics,
jewelry, and sculpture. We are as diverse in experience as
training, and are as comfortable in the language of the gallery
or boardroom to the shit talkin on the street corner. We specialize
in original custom pieces, and consultations are available in person
or from afar. Our design and fabrication processes are in
house and integrated, and we believe in the lasting quality
of custom and original work. We encourage you to visit us in our various studios, to ask questions and watch us work, and to get involved.
marcus lim (esnob)
Somewhat of an enigma, but perhaps more of an esnobma. . .Highly trained hand skills
only matched by a love for efficiency, unafraid of the dangers of 2000 plus
degrees or the sour odors of xylene. A visionary and benefactor of underground action,
a man with one foot on top of the buildings of SF and the other on the street. Conceived
in the pre-dawn stages of Djiboogo studios, soon to bask in the sun of noon. . .
nakona macdonald (snako)
Born on a small tropical island, buried in warm sand, then
tossed in freezing snow, drowned in salt water and molten
glass, revived in odorless mineral spirits and rolled in buckwheat
flour with a splash of the spicy sauce. With influences ranging from
the designs of art nouveau to the homeless guy on the street
corner. Chewing through too much school,
the serving and receiving ends of multiple apprenticeships, and
several thousand pounds of raw cabbage and habanero peppers, with never quite enough time for all the snaks.
paul (pashe one) depew
Born in Martinez California and raised in San Jose California,
I grew up in the art world. I went to art shows as a kid with
my stepfather Spiros and mother Becky, and they pushed me
to develop my already sprouted talent which they could see
even at an early age. I graduated with an a.s. degree in multimedia,
and saw that my talent wasn't needed in the graphic fields,
as well as no desire to be a drone. I honed my talents and
decided to study tattooing. Coming from a graffiti background
I had an advantage over most; as a graffiti artist, you look
at art differently, distorting reality and making it funky,
adding a style and flavor that can't be taught. In my quest
to enlighten and grow as an artist, due to fate or destiny,
I met Nakona, and Marcus, and from after our fated meeting
started clicking right away. From our growing friendship Djiboogo
was created. Not only for personal gain, but as a collective
to bounce ideas, dreams, connections, and possibilities, as
well as a mixed circle of talent, that combined can get any
art project done, and add beauty to the world as well as a
future for art, and family. My goal as an artist is to learn
as much as possible, work with as many mediums as possible,
grow and give back to art as well as the people who struggle
as artists.
